Pond Eddy (SR 1011) Bridge Replacement over the Delaware River

Location: Pike County, PA
SR 1011 crosses the Delaware River from Pike County, PA, to Sullivan County, NY, via a structurally deficient historical truss bridge. The hydrologic study was impacted by five upstream impoundments and three recent floods from 2004 to 2006, within the top five on record. The proposed bridge replacement was complicated by the additional structural depth and pier requirements of a concrete or steel beam bridge design. Several proposed alternatives were evaluated before identifying a replacement structure type, location, and profile that would result in a decrease in backwater. Site access limitations necessitate a full-length causeway.
