SR 0228 Corridor (Mars-Valencia Road) Improvements
Client: PennDOT District 10-0
Location: Adams Township, Butler County, PA
The SR 0228 Corridor (Mars-Valencia Road) Improvement project in Adams Township, Butler County, is implementing various upgrades to a 1.25 mile corridor along SR 0228 from the SR 0228/SR 3019 intersection to approximately 0.5 miles east of the SR 0228/SR 3015 intersection. NTM developed the preliminary and final designs for a 75-foot extension to the cast-in-place arch culvert at a 55° skew. To eliminate backwater increase, the new arch culvert widens from the existing 26 feet 9 inches to 36 feet and, because the extension is in the upstream direction, includes a tapered funnel arch section. The project included analyzing and reviewing all culvert components including the arch barrels, headwalls, and counterfort designs. NTM was also responsible for the culvert’s type, size, and location; hydrology and hydraulics analysis; Post-Construction Stormwater Management Plan; Erosion and Sediment Control Plan; and NPDES permitting.
